The Tetovo Fortress was built in the 1800s and used by the defenders in times of war. It has been run down and is in poor shape, but renovations are underway to improve the structure. A museum has been built on the site to improve the attraction itself.
When visiting Tetovo, this is a must-see for tourists and visitors. The Church of St Athanasius of Alexandria and Church of the Holy Mother of God are encased within the walls of the monastery, and the atmosphere is very tranquil.
Possibly the main attraction in Tetovo, Macedonia, this mosque is very unique and, unlike traditional mosques, has very vivid decorations and paintings. The outside is covered in bright floral paintings and patterns, but the interior is truly beautiful.
The art gallery used to be a part of the Painted Mosque complex, but now stands alone as an art gallery. The building itself is interesting, having once been a bath house, and built with an interesting architectural design. The art inside is quite unique, and the carvings in the ceiling give make for a great atmosphere of day light or moonlight.
Built in the 18th century, this was a collection of buildings used for various religious ceremonies. Now, the Arabati Baba Teke has been turned into a museum and used as a tourist attraction.
In the old part of Tetovo, possibly the biggest and most beautiful church was founded in the other 1900s. It brings together three separate designs to create a unique looking church. Furthermore, as is the pattern in Tetovo, much of the interior is covered in fresco paintings.
If you’re looking for an adventurous hike whilst in Tetovo, then the Popova Sapka Peak, also known as “A Hat of a Momk,” is the right choice. It’s a 3 hour hike both ways, and is said to be a very enjoyable workout. However, it’s more of a challenge, a “I can do it” hike, as there isn’t much at the top but the view. Bring water if you take it on.
